INCOLOY Alloy 800, Alloy 800H, Alloy 800HT Plate

This material, INCOLOY alloy 800 (UNS N08800/W. Nr. 1.4876), is extensively employed in the construction of equipment that needs to withstand corrosion, high temperatures, strong forces, and remain stable enough to function optimally at temperatures as high as 1500°F (816°C).

Alloy 800 provides a reliable barrier against corrosion in diverse aqueous environments, and its high nickel content endows it with exceptional resistance to stress corrosion cracking. At elevated temperatures, it offers resistance to oxidation, carburization, and sulfidation along with rupture and creep strength.

At high temperatures, it has the ability to resist oxidation, carburization, and sulfidation, while maintaining its durability against rupture and creep strength.

INCOLOY Alloy 800 Plate and 800HT are utilized in applications where superior resistance to stress rupture and creep is necessary, particularly in temperatures exceeding 1500°F (816°C).

The inclusion of chromium in the alloy provides both resistance to heat and aqueous environments.

Iron gives protection against being oxidized from within.

The presence of nickel ensures a malleable and austenitic structure is maintained.

As a result, alloy 800 can be easily shaped, welded, and processed by machines.

It had been previously established that alloys containing higher amounts of carbon, such as alloy 800, exhibit superior creep and rupture properties compared to low-carbon variants.

Special Metals typically maintain a carbon range of 0.05 to 0.10% in their products, unless customized orders from customers specifically require a lower carbon content.

The carbon content of alloy 800 falls within both the ASTM and ASME specification limits, with a range typically towards the higher end at 0.05 to 0.10%.

Special Metals collected and provided material data to the ASME Code for this particular product.

The Code Case 1325-7 included an approval of increased design stresses for Section I and Divisions 1 and 2 of Section VIII.

It should be noted that for alloy 800H, meeting the carbon range of 0.05 to 0.10% is not enough, as it also requires an ASTM 5 average or coarser grain size.

We were aware of the significance of keeping the levels of aluminum and titanium within the higher end of the specified material range.

This led to improved resistance to creep and stress rupture compared to alternative alloy 800H.

As a solution for maintaining higher allowable design stresses, the company implemented a modified version of INCOLOY alloy 800H known as INCOLOY alloy 800HT (UNS N08811).

The chemical composition of INCOLOY alloy 800HT is limited to within the boundaries of alloy 800H, and it necessitates a minimum heat treatment of 2100°F (1149°C).

The carbon content of the material ranges from 0.06% to 0.10%, while alloy 800H has a carbon content of 0.05% to 0.10%. Additionally, the material contains 0.85% to 1.20% of Al + Ti, while alloy 800H contains 0.30% to 1.20% of Al + Ti.
